MHz Delivers File-based News Workflow for Mahaa TV

September 11, 2009

Amsterdam, the Netherlands, September 11, 2009 (IBC 2009, Stand 11.F20):  Megahertz (MHz), an international independent systems integrator, announced it has designed the infrastructure for two state-of-the-art studios, a master control room (MCR) and a central apparatus room (CAR) at Mahaa Television, the new 24-hour Indian television news channel in Hyderabad.  Believed to be a completely new generation of news channels catering to the needs of all age groups, Mahaa TV went on air in February 2009.

Megahertz provided its systems integration skills for the design and engineering planning for the file-based workflow at the news channel and facilitated the build out by its local partner, Shaf Broadcast Pvt. Ltd, an established supplier of solutions to the digital content creation industry in India.

Eminent journalist and editor, Inaganti Venkata Rao, originated the idea behind Mahaa TV.  His vision was to create a credible, fair and unbiased forum for the masses.  The channel is a culmination of age old principles of journalism with new age television media technology.  The channel is dedicated to bringing news as it happens, when it happens and wherever it happens — and is broadcast free-to-air and streamed live over the Internet.

“Megahertz has a proven international reputation in the design and planning of file-based workflows in newsroom environments.  It was this knowledge and expertise — and the support of its local partner, Shaf Broadcast — that influenced our decision to choose their offering at Mahaa TV,” said B.V.Rao, Chief Technology Officer at Mahaa Television.  “The MHz team understood our business requirements and supported our effort to design a station that met the needs of the vast, divergent Indian audience.”

The system at Mahaa TV includes Ross vision mixers, Sony CCU-D50 cameras, VizRT Graphics, Evertz routers, multiviewers and QMC MCR switcher, Omnibus Automation, AP ENPS News Room System, as well as Omneon playout servers.

“We are delighted to have been involved with the design for the installation at Mahaa TV as it is a further endorsement of our ability to provide our system integration expertise to support a global broadcaster build new tapeless environment,” said Greg Hoskin, Managing Director of Megahertz.  “The system at Mahaa TV is one of three large projects that we have secured in India in the last six months and is proof that our solutions are tightly matching our client’s needs as they transition to file-based workflows.”

Hyderabad is the capital of Andhra Pradesh — India’s largest state by population and home to a predominantly Telugu-speaking population.  The state is situated on the south eastern coast of India and now has a television reach of 78% of the population — the largest amongst all state in southern India.
