MHz Wraps Up 2009 with Solid International Orders

December 02, 2009

Ely, Cambridgeshire, UK, 2 December 2009: Megahertz (MHz), an international independent systems integrator, will close its 2009 calendar year with a solid order book for its 2010 systems integration business.  2009 saw MHz play to its strengths by maximising on its in-house expertise to design, specify and build facilities for key international customers and recent orders including those from Boomerang TV and Aerial Camera Systems (ACS) will strengthen MHz’s position as the New Year progresses.

Most recently MHz has delivered a number of trucks including a DSNG truck for BBC Scotland, a links truck for ITN, refurbishment of DSNG trucks for GlobeCast and BT — and earlier this year it shipped an innovative satellite vehicle based on a Humvee H3 model to Telemedia in South Africa.  Furthermore 2009 saw MHz build two of SIS LIVE’s next-generation HD production trailers that were used to cover the BBC Sport’s high-definition (HD) coverage of The Championships at Wimbledon last summer.  Work is currently underway at MHz’s Ely facility on the latest SIS LIVE semi-trailer, OB1, which is claimed to be the largest HD OB trailer to be commissioned in the UK.

In addition to the success MHz has achieved in the UK in 2009, the company has also been active in the international markets with fixed installation including those at India’s Time Global Broadcasting where MHz built four new HD-ready studios, a digital automated server-based newsroom and a multi-channel playout MCR.  Moreover MHz completedanother file-based news playout facility in India at Mahaa TV in Hyderabad.  This year also saw MHz active at South Africa’s 24-hour news channel e.tv, where the company completed some HD upgrades at various e.tv production sites around the country.  Additionally MHz provided the design strategy consultancy for Satellite Information Services’ (SIS) Milton Keynes facility, to assist them with their future expansion strategy.

“A key to MHz’s success has been our ability to diversify our business and successfully respond to market demands quickly and effectively.  This has been achieved by a two pronged strategy — firstly to drive our truck and studio refurbishment business while concurrently maintaining strong links to customers with projects to invest in new state-of–the-art HD facilities,” said Greg Hoskin, Managing Director of Megahertz.  “Although we continue to handle the flow of new HD installations we recognised that during these challenging economic times many customers needed to cost-effectively upgrade or refurbish their production facilities — enabling our two pronged approach to be successful in driving genuine return on investment for customers.”

Hoskin continued, “2009 has seen an increase globally in the transition from SD to HD and our recent orders — from Boomerang TV, Aerial Camera Systems (ACS) and GlobeCast in the UK as well as e.tv in South Africa — are good examples of this continuing trend.”
