Broadcast television infrastructures have evolved beyond traditional digital video platforms into complex information technology (IT) systems that utilise identical components to those found in large network IP-architectures. These IT systems now fully manage the movement of media content inside facilities; employing redundant core switches capable of supporting independent, highly available, secure converged network services that are often isolated from other business systems and networks. These systems will service control planes, large (often multi-gigabyte) media file transfers, mission critical synchronized timing and playout for programming services, and data archives consisting of dozens of terabytes of storage (spinning disk and LTO-like data tape) under control of a digital asset management (DAM) sub-system.

The technologies, designs and installation practices employed for broadcast systems are not unlike those used in IT systems, providing such functionality as security, failover/protection, database management, facility control management, automation, and even transaction processing. The bandwidth requirements and support for the information carried on these systems require similar techniques used in implementing system-wide addressing schemes, virtual LANs, and the porting of second- and third-party applications and/or hardware.
MHz & parent company AZCAR have provided dozens of system wide designs, integration and implementation services that mix IT and video for broadcast, entertainment, business, healthcare and associated industries. Our technology staff is proficient in supporting any stage of the process from consulting through design, installation, commissioning and beyond.
